About

Barcelona Regional is a public agency for strategic planning, urbanism and infrastructures created in 1993 on the basis of the experience accumulated during the urban transformation of the city of Barcelona on the occasion of the 1992 Olympic Games.

Led by Barcelona City Council and with the participation of other public shareholders, including the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, the Port of Barcelona and the Free Zone Consortium, it was built as the Metropolitan Agency for Urban Development and Infrastructures.

Throughout these years, and under the impetus of Josep Acebillo and the various directors who have led it, the metropolitan scale and the large transformative projects of the city have been among its main works. In these, the infrastructural, urban planning and environmental dimensions, inseparable, have made a specific practice become a recognized brand.

From the environmental recovery of the Besòs river to the transformation of the territory that housed the 2004 Forum of Cultures and its urban development, the Poblenou Infrastructure Plan and the neighborhood of the new generation 22@ to the planning of in the railway area of the arrival of high speed in La Sagrera or Sants, among others, there have been multiple occasions in which a singular way of understanding complex urban phenomena has been shaped.

These large projects have been approached from an increasingly transversal perspective, looking to deal with the progressive complexity of the urban without moving away from specific problems, and with the aspiration of setting up operational proposals, all guaranteed by a wide and prestigious multidisciplinary team of architecture, urban planning, engineering, geography, economics and biology.
