Our mission
Forte is a government agency under the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. Our operations are guided by governmental directives and an annual letter of appropriation. On behalf of the government we promote and support basic and needs-driven research within working life, social and public health.

What we do
Research funding
Forte distributes around SEK 800 million every year to both basic and needs-driven research. This ranges from individual project grants to larger efforts to build world-class research environments. Forte also works actively to stimulate international research collaborations, both within the EU and worldwide.

Fields of research

Analysis
Forte’s tasks also include identifying areas where more research is needed, and to promote research that gives us the knowledge to meet these challenges. We map the state of knowledge within Forte’s areas trough evaluations, research overviews and dialogue with researchers and other societal actors.

Communication
Forte also works with communication of research and research results. We create meeting places, promote active dialogue, compile research, provide knowledge to the public debate and contribute to the utilisation of research results. For example, we organise seminars and conferences where researchers, policy makers and others can meet and exchange knowledge. We promote and initiate scientific publication, knowledge transfer and dialogue about the research we fund. In this way, Forte wants to contribute to research results being disseminated and benefiting society.
