About
Fondo Mexicano para la Conservación de la Naturaleza, AC (FMCN) is a private, non-profit organization that was born in 1994. The concept of Mexico's first environmental fund was born in 1992 during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development. , held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. FMCN guarantees stable financing and has the capacity to attract resources from national and international sources to support projects for the conservation of biodiversity.
The Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature has four external objectives:
- Conservation: favor the integrity of ecosystems and their ecological processes
- Sustainable use: promote the long-term use of natural resources
- Capacity development: consolidate professional skills and personal leadership, as well as competitiveness and institutional capacities for sustainable development
- Environmental responsibility: promote voluntary compensation schemes in development projects.
