Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA)

The Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA), of the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development & Public Works is a legal entity responsible to carry out the functions of state road administration, to represent the state in international road organizations and to participate in drafting and performance of international contracts related to construction, maintenance and use of the roads.

Duties and responsibilities of RIA:

• Implementation of the governmental policy in the road sector – management, development and maintenance of the national road network.
• Working out plans for long-term strategies for road infrastructure development in line with state policy.
• Overall responsibility for the implementation of the EU pre-accession programs (PHARE, ISPA); Operational programs - OP “Transport” and OP “Regional Development” financed by the Cohesion Fund and the Structural Funds and Territorial cooperation programs – Cross-border cooperation program Romania – Bulgaria 2007-2013 and European territorial co-operation program Greece – Bulgaria 2007-2013, as well as programs supported by the EIB and World Bank.
• Performance of studies forecasting the development of republic road network traffic.
