About

Created in 2003, the Brazilian Institute for Development and Sustainability (IABS) is a Civil Society Organization of Public Interest (OSCIP). Its permanent objective is to contribute to social well-being, sustainable development and the reduction of inequalities at local, regional, national and international levels. For its actions, it considers socio-environmental integrity and quality, institutional development and strengthening, the defense of natural and cultural heritage, the improvement of quality of life and the guarantee of access to such benefits for present and future generations. The IABS considers that global development, despite being broad, is inserted and materialized at the local level, in its most essential form and closest to those who actually experience this process. It is not simply a generic reflection of a national or regional model, but rather a process in which actors must empower themselves to formulate, decide and implement paths for their own development. It is in this context that IABS proposes to create, together with its partners and the beneficiary community, effective institutional strengthening actions, social dialogue, economic and socio-environmental alternatives. We believe that poverty, lack of citizenship and social exclusion, in all its aspects, still affect a large part of the world's population and inhibit any form of sustainable development.
