RINA is one of the oldest classification societies in the world. It began life with the name ITALIAN REGISTER (REGISTRO ITALIANO) in Genoa in 1861 on the initiative of the “Maritime Health Insurance Association”, as a national body for shipping classification, to cover the risks relative to losses and damage regarding the hull and equipment of sailing ships. With a history going back 150 years, the RINA Group (RINA) is a global corporation that provides engineering and consultancy services, as well as testing, inspection and certification.
Our wide range of services is provided across the Energy, Marine, Certification, Transport & Infrastructure and Industry sectors through a global network of offices. With over 4,000 colleagues located in 200 offices in 70 countries, and total revenues close to 470 Million Euros, RINA is one of the most significant players in the consulting and engineering market, able to support Clients throughout the project life, from initial concepts and design, through to operation, maintenance and decommissioning.
RINA is also a member of key international organisations and an important contributor to the development of new legislative standards.

Each activity carried out by the Company is performed following RINA Quality Management System. This was established in 1985 according to the ANSI 45.2 standards. The system was subsequently updated to the ISO 9001:1994 Norms (July 1997) and to the ISO 9001:2008 standards (Certification valid to January 2023), currently in use. RINA Consulting is also certified according to the ISO 14001:2004 Norms and the BS OHSAS 18001:2007.

- Development Financial Institutions (DFIs): International Finance Corporation (IFC) as part of the wider World Bank Group, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), KfW Development Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Commission (EC), Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), etc.;
- Export Credit Agencies (ECAs): Export-Import Bank of the United States (US Exim), Export Development Canada (EDC), UK Export Finance (ECGD), Australian Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC), Servizi Assicurativi del Commercio Estero (SACE), Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), etc.;

With our extensive knowledge of DFI funded projects, RINA has acquired strong familiarity with IFC PSs and EHS Guidelines, EBRD PRs, IDB OPs, EIB ES Principles and Standards as well as with the OECD Common Approaches, the Equator Principles and their implication in the development of complex international projects with potential environmental and social constraints.
