About

The Olomouc region is located in the central part of Moravia and extends into its northern part. The total area of the region 5,267 km 2 makes up 6.7% of the total area of the Czech Republic. With its area, it ranks among the smaller regions, occupying the eighth place among 14 regions in the Czech Republic. The Olomouc Region has a 104 km long interstate border with Poland in the north, borders the Moravian-Silesian Region in the east, the Zlín and South Moravian Regions in the south and the Pardubice Region in the west.

Geographically, the region is divided into a northern mountainous part with the Jeseníky Mountains with the highest mountain Praděd (1491 m above sea level). The southern part of the region is formed by the flat Hana. The Morava River flows through the region, at the level of which near Kojetín in the Přerov district is the lowest point of the region (190 m above sea level).

Agricultural land occupies 279,361 hectares in the Olomouc Region, ie 53.0% (53.6% in the Czech Republic) of the total area of crops in the region. Forest land is also abundantly represented (34.9% of the total area in the region), especially in the north of the region in the Jeseník district (59.5%) and in the Šumperk district (48.5%).
