About
The HafenCity University Hamburg was founded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on January 1, 2006 as a university for architecture and spatial development by merging four departments from three Hamburg universities.
The HafenCity University Hamburg - University of Architecture and Metropolis Development (HCU) is a university that focuses thematically on the built environment. The HCU brings together all aspects of construction in design and drafting, engineering and natural sciences as well as humanities and social sciences under one roof. The overarching research focuses of the HCU are climate/sustainability and digitalization.
As the largest inner-city urban development project in Europe, the HafenCity location offers around 2,400 students and around 250 employees the special appeal of a city laboratory on their own doorstep.
