About

DCA has been working in the DR Congo since 2004 within the sectors of protection, education in emergencies, humanitarian mine action, food security, sexual and gender based-violence (SGBV) prevention and survivor assistance in the Provinces of North and South Kivu and Maniema.

Main activities

DCA’s main activities in South Kivu include education in emergencies, psychosocial support (PSS), community resilience including SGBV and peace education as well as community safety planning in Shabunda and Fizi territories. We also operate in neighbouring Maniema Province (Kabambare territory).

DCA has been conducting humanitarian mine action activities since 2015 including removal and destruction of UXO (unexploded ordnance) and landmines with a focus on agricultural land, infrastructure and access routes, as well as educating people on the risks of UXO and small arms and light weapons.

In the future, DCA aims to continue clearance activities efforts and education in emergencies activities wherever the needs are greatest. In addition, based on our assessments of needs, DCA is looking to build new programmes focusing on:

  • Livelihoods and food security activities targeting communities previously affected by mines/ERW
  • Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) at semi-urban and local level
  • Armed violence reduction and Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) risk reduction
  • Training of instructors in communities on Mine/ERW education

With this, we aim to build safer and more resilient communities and clear the path for a prosperous DR Congo.
