Description

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA or ECA) was founded in 1958 by the United Nations with the goal of facilitating economic collaboration among its associates (the countries from the African continent) as a result of a recommendation from the UN General Assembly.

The ECA comprises 54 member states which match the 54 United Nations member states that are located on the African continent or in the waters surrounding the continent. The work of the commission is divided into seven program segments which are the African Centre for Statistics, Macroeconomic Policy, Social development Policy, Innovation and Technology, Regional integration and Trade and Capacity Development.
