About
WALIC is a regional centre of excellence on livestock innovations built on the legacy and achievements of the International Trypanotolerance Centre (ITC). The ITC was established in The Gambia in 1982 and worked on improving the performance of the N’Dama cattle reputed to be tolerant to Trypanosomosis and a number of other diseases. ITC recently developed a 10-year strategic plan with a broader programme of research, innovation and partnerships and a re-branding as the West Africa Livestock Innovation Centre (WALIC). WALIC’s vision is a vibrant West African livestock sector, which boosts food security and wealth creation while safeguarding the environment.
