El Pomar is a foundation for Colorado, with a mission inspired by the values of Spencer and Julie Penrose.

Spencer Penrose was a Philadelphia entrepreneur who moved to Colorado Springs in 1892. Over the ensuing decades he made his fortune through investing in gold and copper in Colorado and the American West. Meanwhile, Julie Penrose was a patroness of the arts and a local leader in philanthropy. Together, the couple established El Pomar Foundation in 1937.El Pomar is a general purpose foundation committed to enhance, encourage and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado.
