Many firms in Bangladesh have grown their businesses while helping smallholder farmers implement new technologies and better management practices, which has improved the quality of their produce. However, most agribusinesses lack the ability to effectively manage their businesses while increasing their engagements with farmers. Agribusinesses need to work more closely with farmer-clients, providing information that will increase farmers’ productivity, quality of production, and profitability to enhance Bangladesh’s food security.

USAID’s Feed the Future Bangladesh Horticulture, Fruits, and Non-Food Crops Activity helps agribusinesses work more closely with farmer-clients, providing information that boosts productivity and production of quality horticulture, fruits, and non-food crops that meet international standards. The activity strengthens the value chain, linking Bangladeshi smallholder commercial farmers with other actors and increasing the efficiency of the market system in meeting domestic and international demands. The result is a more competitive private sector, which increases farmers’ income.

By strengthening market systems in this way, the activity cultivates inclusive and sustainable economic growth while promoting food security in Bangladesh.
