About

Foundation for Black Communities exists to ensure every Black person in Canada can thrive and all Black communities have agency in defining their own future. They will invest in change making, working with Canadian philanthropic, political and business partners to ensure that Black-led and Black-serving organizations have the sustained resources they need to make a meaningful impact.

Besides that is a philanthropic organization dedicated to strengthening the wellbeing, prosperity, and long‑term resilience of Black communities across Canada. Created to address historic and ongoing underfunding of Black‑led and Black‑serving organizations, the foundation works to ensure that Black communities have the resources, infrastructure, and support needed to thrive. Its mission centers on advancing self‑determination, equity, and community leadership by investing in solutions designed by and for Black Canadians.

Its support focuses on initiatives that enhance economic opportunities, improve health and wellness, advance arts and culture, strengthen youth development, support community safety, expand education and leadership pathways, and address systemic inequities. The foundation invests in Black‑led organizations and community‑identified priorities through research‑informed programs, capacity‑building initiatives, and grants that promote long‑term community development and structural change.

Its geographic scope spans Canada, where it serves Black communities in urban, rural, and remote regions. Through national and regional initiatives, the foundation responds to the diverse cultural, social, and economic realities of Black communities across different provinces and territories, ensuring that investments reflect locally defined needs.

The foundation supports Black‑led and Black‑serving nonprofits, grassroots groups, community initiatives, youth organizations, cultural institutions, and research partnerships working to advance the wellbeing of Black communities. It prioritizes organizations with strong community roots, inclusive practices, and the capacity to deliver measurable and sustainable impact.

Funding is structured through annual grant cycles, multi‑year program investments, capacity‑building funds, research‑driven initiatives, and community partnerships. This model provides stable, long‑term support while allowing flexibility to respond to emerging needs, innovative community solutions, and strategic opportunities that strengthen Black leadership and community infrastructure across Canada.
