About
The Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) is responsible for architectural plans of the federal government in Bonn, Berlin and internationally. Besides this, the BBR is contracted with the sectoral and scientific consultation for the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) in questions of regional planning, urban development as well as housing and building.
The Federal Office arose from the fusion of the Federal Research Institute for Regional Geography and Regional Planning (BfLR) with the Federal Building Office (BBD) on the 1st January 1998. As part of the modernising of the Federal Building Administration, the Federal Building Offices I and II of the Higher Finance Office in Berlin were allocated to the BBR on the 1st January 2004. The 1st service office of the Federal Office, with its staff of currently around 1200 employees, is Bonn. It belongs to the operational division of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS).
