Created in February 2007, headquartered in Manaus, with the purpose of carrying out teaching, research and institutional development activities, for the defense, preservation and conservation of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development, acting in several areas related to these themes.

I-PIATAM has developed competence and excellence in research development in the Amazon region, since it comes from the Piatam Project, created in 2000 as a project of the Federal University of Amazonas which, since its first phase, has been funded by Petroleum and Natural Gas Sector Fund - CT Petro, managed by FINEP - Financier of Studies and Projects.

The Piatam Institute is accredited with the Federal University of Amazonas.
