About
The Directorate for Children, Youth and Families (Bufdir) is under the Ministry of Children and Family Affairs (BFD), and is a professional body in the area of child welfare, children, youth and upbringing, adoption, family protection, equality and non-discrimination and violence and abuse in close relationships. We are a state administrative body under the Ministry of Children and Family Affairs (BFD). Our main tasks are in the areas of upbringing, child welfare, family protection, adoption, equality and non-discrimination and violence and abuse in close relationships.
Bufdir manages Bufetat, which is responsible for the state child and family protection. Bufetat has about 5,000 employees in five regions. Following an amendment to the law on 1 January 2014, the Directorate was the professional body for the entire child welfare service, ie both the municipal and the state doctor. We are located in Oslo and have almost 200 employees.
