Description
In the wake of the Rio summit, the French government established the FFEM (the French Global Environment FAcility / Fonds Français pour l'Environnement Mondial) in 1994 to bring its undertakings for protection of the global environment in developing countries into practical effect.
Working to support French cooperation and development policy for global environment protection, the FFEM provides grants to sustainable development projects in areas relevant to the multilateral agreements on the environment signed by France.
The FFEM is a bilateral mechanism that acts to address the degradation of the global environment.
The FFEM is an instrument of French cooperation and development policy in the areas of climate change, biodiversity, international waters, land degradation (including desertification and deforestation), persistent organic pollutants and protection of the ozone layer.
It is a bilateral fund created by the French government in 1994, whose activities are in line with the strategic priorities of French development assistance.
