About

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is Africa’s premier research institution and think tank, exploring questions of population health and wellbeing. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with a satellite office in Dakar, Senegal, the Center seeks to drive change with evidence led by a growing cadre of research leaders from across sub-Saharan Africa. Our teams orient their research agendas to global and continental development priorities, driven by the belief that Africa and African-generated evidence must be at the forefront of decisions supporting improved growth and development in the region.

Over the years the Center has become synonymous with research rigor, leadership and influence. We see evidence of our impact at national, regional and continental levels, with APHRC research being used in the setting of policy at the African Union, within regional economic communities, and in country-level decision-making.  In countries, such work includes the development of national strategic plans, patient management guidelines and new national policies; testing the feasibility of new policies; development of action plans and road maps for implementation of existing policies, and informing resource allocation decisions, among others. Our work has informed these policy decisions across the health, education and urban planning sectors in more than 22 sub-Saharan African countries.
