About

Hungarian Interchurch Aid, founded in 1991, is one of Hungary’s largest charity organizations that also gained international recognition.  It assists those in need and deprivation through its expanding community of experts, volunteers, donors and corporate partners. HIA-Hungary provides assistance regardless of nationality, religion and ideology. The organization helps in accordance with the strictest professional and transparency rules in Hungary, and in the international arena as a member of the international community.

What We Do

HIA has a multi -faceted approach; within which achieving sustainable results is a primary aim, with parti cular att enti on to equal rights for women, children’s rights, to maintain the dignity of the benefi ciaries and to respect environmental sustainability.

Cross-Sectoral Approach

  • RECONSTRUCTION

We support families, communities and institutions in the post-disaster rehabilitation efforts.

  • PROVIDING LIVING CONDITIONS

We support food security initi ati ves of a given region by our rural development programmes that are built on each other. These programmes include agricultural, water management and environmental protecti on projects.

The objective of our infrastructural and organizational capacity-building activities is to create the conditions for the development of a civil society thus strengthening advocacy skills of local communities.

  • EDUCATION AND TRAINING

We support the educati on and training of children, youths and also of adults. We contribute to establishing and developing proper educati onal infrastructure and supply the necessary educati onal tools through the help of local labour.

  • CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT

Since its founding in 1991, HIA has carried out humanitarian, development aid programmes in 39 countries.
