The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), founded in 1992 and based Washington D.C., monitors and improves the legal environment for civil society organizations worldwide by analyzing and reporting on laws and policies concerning the freedoms of association, expression, and assembly, thereby providing an enabling environment for civil society, civic participation, philanthropy, and development cooperation. ICNL provides technical and research assistance to support the reform of laws affecting civil society organizations in more than 100 countries around the world and has established itself as a leading source of information and assistance on laws affecting civil society and civic freedoms for nonprofits and funders.
