Who we are

HaRu-Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Environment conducts high quality research and provides technical support services for today’s food, nutrition, and natural resource and climate change challenges. Our team of experts is made up of well-experienced university professors, researchers and other professionals in the fields of agriculture, social sciences, agri-businesses, rural development, gender and livelihood, food security, nutrition and health, climate and natural resource management. We also recruit additional experienced researchers, experts and professionals, according to specific project needs.

Services

Monitoring, Evaluation and Research

We conduct baseline surveys and feasibility studies, design monitoring and evaluation systems, conduct demand-driven trainings, undertake research and consultancy in the areas of agriculture, gender, food security and nutrition, natural resource management, environment and climate change, agro-processing, agri-businesses, agro-tourism, and crop and animal production and protection.

Food Security, Nutrition and Health

We assess household and community food security, as well as nutrition and health issues, in order to understand local food and nutrition systems and design strategies to improve them. .

Gender and Livelihood

Further, we conduct gender analysis in order to understand access and control over agricultural and other resources by both women and men; and undertake research into cultural, socio-economic, environmental and health-related factors that lead to life subordination, discrimination and/or marginalization of women.

Capacity Building & Agricultural Education

We also design and conduct demand-driven training programs to upgrade the knowledge and skills of agriculturists, managers, experts and extension workers.

Natural Resources, Climate and Environment

Furthermore, we examine the different aspects of natural resource and environmental degradation with the aim of controlling water quality deterioration, biodiversity decline, and ecosystem degradation.

Agro-processing & Value Chain.

We create unique perspectives on agro-processing and value-creation pools, as well as investment opportunities in food and agriculture. Moreover, we use an end-to-end perspective on supply-chain management to help stakeholders reduce shrinkage and optimize the quality and cost of their fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and other agricultural products.
