About
Al-Aqsa University is a scientifically and academically independent governmental institution, supervised by an independent board of trustees that decides its policies and assumes its responsibilities. In accordance with the Higher Education Law No. (6) of 2018 AD and the regulations issued pursuant thereto by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the university aims to spread knowledge, deepen its roots, and serve and develop the Palestinian society within the framework of a philosophy based on national concepts and the heritage of Arab and Islamic civilization.
Al-Aqsa University began in the year (1955 AD) as an institute for teachers under the management of the Egyptian government, and the aim at that time was to prepare and qualify teachers. , its professors, and its students, and many teachers and researchers with high scientific and educational competence graduated from it with bachelor’s and licentiate degrees, and it also had a prominent role in graduating a number of holders of master’s and doctoral degrees through the joint postgraduate program with Ain Shams University, and with the beginning of the academic year (2000 / 2001 AD) The college was transferred to Al-Aqsa University, which is managed by an advisory board consisting of (11) members.
The university currently includes ten faculties: the College of Applied Sciences, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Education, the College of Mass Communication, the College of Arts, the College of Administration and Finance, the College of Physical Education and Sports, the College of Computing and Information Technology, the College of Medical Sciences, and the Al-Aqsa University Community College for Intermediate Studies. Knowing that Al-Aqsa University is the only university in the Gaza Strip that grants a bachelor's degree in media, arts, physical education and sports.
The number of its students is about (22,240) male and female students, and the university includes (564) faculty members and (560) administrative employees in the university branches.
Throughout the stages of its development and expansion, the university contributed to preparing students to be active citizens in their society, and competitors capable of assuming their responsibilities towards their society, in addition to strengthening their relationship with their society and developing the spirit of cooperation among them. The university has strengthened in its students the principle of democratic interaction based on respect for others.
Since its inception, the university has played a pivotal role in rehabilitating and developing the bulk of the local community’s resources and resources, especially human ones, through the university’s educational, research and training programs specialized in the fields of information technology and science, in politics, administration and economics, in the areas of education and teacher preparation, in Media and sports fields. All this to serve the Palestinian society and contribute to its economic and social development.
