About
The Institute of Applied Manpower Research (IAMR) is the only institution of its kind. Soon after India's independence in 1947, the parliamentary debates in the 1950s pointed to the need for an institution that would function as a clearing-house of ideas and undertake policy research on human capital development to inform perspective planning and promote policy integration.
IAMR is an autonomous institution under the Planning Commission, Government of India and is the only think-tank of the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission has two main functions: one, it prepares the five-year plans of India; and two, through plan funds, it also finances the programmes that implement the plans. IAMR works in close collaboration with the Planning Commission.
