About
To enhance and deepen cooperation between India and Germany in the energy sector, the German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh established the Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF) at the Hannover Fair in April 2006. The main objectives of the IGEF are
- to rehabilitate and modernise thermal power plants
- to encourage the use of clean energy sources
- to disseminate climate-friendly technologies on both the supply and demand sides.
The process focuses on both promoting private sector activities and putting in place an enabling environment so as to further develop the market for thermal power plant technologies, energy efficiency and renewable energies in India. To this end, the IGEF aims to facilitate a constructive dialogue between decision-makers in government and industry on
- sustainable energy supply and energy use
- the development of markets for efficient thermal power plant technologies, energy efficiency and renewable energies
- support strategic private-sector activities such as pilot and demonstration projects
- collaborative projects involving Indian and German private businesses.
A Support Office (IGEF-SO) has been set up in New Delhi and Berlin to liaise between all participants in the IGEF process.
