Grameen Jano Unnayan Sangstha (GJUS) is a private voluntary organization working for the development of coastal district areas of Southern Bangladesh of. The organization was emerged in 1997 but formally floated in 1998 with the registration of Social Welfare Department and NGO Bureau of Youth Development Department and Joint Stock for providing voluntary services in the remote areas of Bangladesh.
To address the felt need of the poor community of coastal areas of Bangladesh, for example - marginal farmers; fishermen; small businessmen and the landless community, some self- motivated energetic social workers have united themselves to establish the non-profit and non-religious voluntary organization, Grameen Jano Unnayan Sangstha (GJUS).
The organization provides financial support to the poor and ultra poor at grass root level for poverty alleviation by providing micro-credit loans, involving people in numerous projects, implementing new techniques and methods of farming and fishing and creating awareness through group discussion, empowering women through training. Grameen Jano Unnayan Sangstha (GJUS) is not only helping the deprived group of people of the society but also has involved itself in social development of the concerned areas of the country by participating in social and cultural activities. The organization believes that a person cannot be developed completely only by financial help. He/she also needs social support to grow within. Throughout its history GJUS has been constantly involving with different governmental programs and participating with international NGOs and other traditional NGOs. The organization has a General Council and an Executive Council (EC). The Executive Director is an active member of the council and is the chief of staff team. He is responsible for all the execution of activities carried out by the staffs of the organization.
