Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)

The Community system for voluntary environmental management and audit scheme ( Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, EMAS) has been developed by the European Communities in 1993 a tool for companies that want to improve their environmental performance. The current legal basis is the  Regulation (EC) no. 1221/2009 . This amendment came into force 11 January 2010. The development of an EMS and the processes meet since 2001 with EMAS ISO 14001. EMAS, however, goes beyond a pure management system addition: EMAS is performance-based: The operation is expected to improve on the environmental legal requirements! When EMAS are in the process of continuous improvement environmental performance, the employees included.
