Hrad Loket, o.p.s. / Loket Castle

The stone royal castle of Loket is a more than 800-year-old residence, towering on a granite massif, which is surrounded by the Ohře River. It was probably founded as a border fortress. The castle served the kings, the Šliks and the lords of Plavno, the townspeople of Loket and in the 19th and 20th centuries also as a prison. Shortly after 1989, it was opened to the public, the tour route leads through the porcelain exhibition, the collections of the former city museum, the weapons museum to the premises of the former prison, where there is now an impressive and authentic exhibition of the law of suffering.

The castle's margrave's quarters house exhibits from the returned Loket collections. You can admire furniture from the previous three centuries, an old Loket pharmacy, wooden statues and sculptures.

In the same place, in addition to rare minerals, you can also see the legendary Loket meteorite, which Johann Wolfgang Goethe himself was interested in.
