About

Established in 2008, the Disaster and Development organization (DADO) is an independent, non-profit institution and specializes in policy analysis, action research and project implementation for disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, public health, business continuity management and sustainable development at local, national, regional and global levels. DADO's work encompasses the interdisciplinary field of sustainability science, focusing on the intricate interplay between environmental preservation, societal well-being, and economic equilibrium. It’s niches on disaster and development nexus that disaster events undermine development gains and development exacerbates disaster. In these contexts, unilineal disaster risk reduction approaches often fail due to fragmentation, individual knowledge, lack of coordination, leadership, resources, intuitional support and cost inefficiency. The solution is seen as a whole society, state, private and third sector approaches that can integrate multi-hazard and development planning processes together. The DADO aims to prepare an inclusive resilient society through building capacity of the individual, professionals and community living at risk areas for better coping with disasters and achieving sustainable development.

DADO's work is guided by three foundational principles:

  1. Prioritizing initiatives that benefit the most disadvantaged populations.
  2. Extending our reach to remote and inaccessible regions.
  3. Operating in areas that are highly vulnerable to disaster risks.
