AustriaTech

AustriaTech is a private company whose mission is to maximize the societal benefits of new transport technologies. The company was founded in 2005 as a 100% owned subsidiary of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit).

AustriaTech assists the bmvit by pursuing a long-term strategy for developing and implementing sustainable transport solutions. Furthermore, Austrian law assigns AustriaTech responsibility for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning and national implementation of the European ITS Directive. The law also makes AustriaTech responsible for helping integrate Austrian concerns into European ITS policy. In its role as an agency, AustriaTech is both a facilitator and an operator of the common ITS strategy. In its role as a neutral partner, AustriaTech can help facilitate agreements between administration, infrastructure operators and industry as well as also operate its own systems.

AustriaTech focuses on analysing and implementing mobility technologies and supporting the bmvit with technical and policy guidance. This is done by a staff of almost 40 highly qualified professionals with comprehensive technological knowledge and specialized process know-how. AustriaTech is divided into two independent business units: system design & ITS implementation, and innovation & E-mobility. These units work closely together to help achieve the company’s mission.
