Cherkasy Regional Council / Черкаська обласна рада

On January 7, 1954, according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Cherkasy Oblast was formed, which included three cities of regional subordination - Cherkasy, Smila, Uman and 30 districts of Kyiv, Poltava, Kirovograd and Vinnytsia regions.

The total area of the area was 21.1 thousand square meters. km, the population - 1497 thousand people (17.4% lived in cities, 82.6% - in rural areas).

The formation of the region has become an impetus for the accelerated development of the region, which until then remained a deaf periphery of the four aforementioned areas.
