SOCIETE NATIONALE D’ETUDES DU DETROIT DE GIBRALTAR (S.N.E.D.)

On October 24, 1980 Spain and Morocco signed a Scientific and Technical Co-operation Agreement for the study of the feasibility of a fixed link through the Gibraltar Strait, supplemented by an Additional Agreement on 27 September 1989.

The 1980 and 1989 Agreements set up a Joint Spanish-Moroccan Committee for the fixed link through the Gibraltar Strait, setting up a Body for the Supervision of the Project as well as two government agencies: the Société Nationale d’Etudes du Detroit de Gibraltar (SNED) in Morocco and the Sociedad Española de estudios para la Comunicacion fija a tráves del estrecho de Gibraltar (SECEG) in Spain, in charge of the starting up of the work plans approved by the Joint Committee, for the carrying out of research on a fixed link between Europe and Africa through the Gibraltar Strait with the following aim:

• The planning, the means and types of construction and the management of the finished work.

• The promotion of the project nationally and internationally, as well as the start up of any necessary activities which will favor the project in Spain, Morocco or a third country, and

• Overall, whatever activities may be directly or indirectly associated with the above
