India HIV/AIDS Alliance

Founded in 1999, India HIV/AIDS Alliance is a non-governmental organisation operating in partnership with civil society, government and communities to support sustained responses to HIV in India that protect rights and improve health.

Complementing the Indian national programme, Alliance India builds capacity, provides technical support and advocates to strengthen the delivery of effective, innovative, community-based HIV programmes to vulnerable populations who bear the brunt of the epidemic: people who inject drugs; men who have sex with men; transgenders & hijras; sex workers; vulnerable youth; women; and people living with HIV.

Alliance India works in 32 states and Union Territories in India and, as of March 2015, reaches more than one million registered clients with services and provides grant funding and capacity building support to more than 700 civil society organisations, in particular community-based organisations by and for key populations. Current and past donors include the Global Fund, CDC, the Government of the Netherlands, the European Union, MAC AIDS Fund, UNICEF, USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Leveraging our implementation experience, we work closely with the Alliance Regional Technical Support Hub for South Asia, based in New Delhi, to strengthen capacity of civil society organisations, government and the private sector in South Asia to respond more effectively to the epidemic.

An independent national NGO managed and governed wholly in India, Alliance India is also an accredited member of the global network of Linking Organisations of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance.
