On-chip Active Reconfigurable Filters for 5g Phased Array Antennas (ARTES 4.0 SPL 5G/6G 7A.076)

Objectives: The objective is to design, build, and test reconfigurable Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC) filters, and demonstrate their benefits on a C-Band antenna array demonstrator for 5G. This includes developing a new class of reconfigurable filters suitable for integration in intermediate RF stages. The project aims to cover a variety of C-Band application scenarios requiring hybrid terrestrial/satellite connectivity, enabling various 5G use-cases currently not feasible due to interference limitations. The demonstrators will validate performance enhancements, such as passband system noise reduction and out-of-band interference rejection in the 3.3 to 7.0 GHz range. A software tool for behavioral modeling will complement the hardware, aiding antenna designers in optimizing filter benefits for 5G use-cases, including Connected Car, Aeronautical, and dual-connectivity scenarios.
