Forest Products Laboratory - Laboratory Equipment

Objectives: The Advanced Composites research work unit (RWU 4706) at the USDA Forest Products Laboratory aims to acquire a chemisorption analyzer and integrated online mass spectrometer systems to advance research in biochar and wood-derived carbonaceous materials. The project focuses on designing and preparing value-added materials from wood, forest residuals, and industrial wastes, targeting applications such as adsorbents for heavy metals and toxic gases, electrodes in batteries, and catalysts in chemical processes. A system for material property and reactivity characterization is needed, ensuring high accuracy, precision, and operator safety.
