About
The Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, a teaching Hospital of Umar Musa Yar’adua University Katsina formerly known as Federal Medical Centre Katsina was a project conceived in the mid 70s as a state hospital by the old Kaduna State Government to provide specialist medical facilities in Katsina and Daura Emirates which now constitute Katsina State.
With the creation of Katsina State in 1987, the hospital was taken over by the new state for completion with the mandate to provide adequate healthcare service delivery to its communities, neighbouring states, as well as serve as a centre for research and training of health personnel.
The hospital was taken over on 29th October, 1996 from Katsina State Government by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It covers a large area of about 255.727 hectares and is located along Murtala Muhammad Way, Jibia bypass in Katsina city.
Over the years, the hospital has witnessed monumental development in terms of manpower, infrastructure and procurement of state-of-the-art equipment which helped in repositioning the Hospital to become one of the leading Institutions in health tourism in Nigeria.
The Hospital presently has over 2000 staff with 84 consultants who specialised in various medical fields and other professionals categorised into clinical and non-clinical. Staff skills are being enhanced with regular training and retraining within and outside Nigeria for optimal service delivery.
