The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) is a state-owned holding corporation founded in 2001 that owns and controls shares in several gas projects for the Egyptian government. EGAS also has the responsibility of providing natural gas exploration permits with the aim of developing the country’s natural gas sector to become one of the region's largest and most important natural gas producers. It seeks to increase proven reserves of natural gas to meet both local market demand and export orders, create new specialized businesses in the drilling, engineering and marine vessel sectors to balance supply and demand, increase annual production and maintain a strategy of innovation and growth.
EGAS administers all areas of natural gas activity, encourages investment and proposes original approaches for the gas industry's development, improves the benefits of the gas supply, manages the gas transmission and distribution infrastructure and coordinates all the relevant operations, reduces the financial pressure on the government's budget by minimizing liquid petroleum imports as well as enhancing the career development of the technical workforce to fulfill the gas industry's requirements.
