Description

Waitaki District Council provides a huge range of facilities and services for a population of around 20,000 residents.

We employ outstanding people whose skills and experience reflect our desire to provide the best for these facilities and services. They include water and roading engineers, horticulture specialists, urban planners, accountants and other financial specialists, building inspectors, public health experts, IT and software engineers, swim instructors and lifeguards, communication professionals, event co-ordinators, curators, parking officers, administrators, PAs, HR specialists, librarians, and customer service staff. Our staff come from all over the world (everywhere except Antarctica, in fact).

Most of our employees live in and around Oamaru and enjoy an enviable lifestyle free of gridlock traffic and pollution. Historically a food-producing region, Waitaki's food tourism market is growing, as are adventure tourism opportunities. We have beautiful lakes, tramping, fishing and hunting; and beaches with great surf and brilliant white sand - weekend plans here consist of asking, 'what cool thing would we like to do next?'

Oamaru is Waitaki's main town. Home to around 12,000 people, Oamaru offers the historic Victorian precinct, little blue penguins and Steampunk HQ. There are more artists here than you can shake a stick and our residents love dressing up, having a festival, any excuse, really.

We have award-winning restaurants, wineries, craft breweries and the Whitestone Geopark's magnificent geological sites. The scenery is exquisite: spectacular mountains, shimmering lakes - we like to bike: the A2O cycle trail extends from Aoraki Mt Cook all the way to Oamaru on the eastern coast.
