Ministry of National Development Planning, also called BAPPENAS, is a government body formed in 1947 in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is responsible for controlling government affairs in the area of national development planning to assist the President in organizing public administration.
The National Development Vision involves the realization of a sovereign, independent and advanced character of Indonesia on the basis of mutual cooperation. The main objectives of BAPPENAS include strengthening economic resilience to ensure quality and equitable growth, developing territories to reduce inequality, enhancing the quality and competitiveness of human resources, intellectual revolution and cultural development, improving infrastructure for economic support, preserving the environment and improving disaster resilience, as well as contributing to public service transformation. The most important task of BAPPENAS is to produce National Development Planning that is systematic, focused, integrated and responsive to change and oversees the implementation of national development based on democracy with the principles of unity, justice, sustainability and independence by maintaining a balance of progress and national integrity. BAPPENAS is made up of various departments – the Directorate of Public Health & Nutrition, the Directorate of Religion, Education & Culture, the Directorate for Politics, Law, Defence & Security, etc. which work together to achieve their goals.
