The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) is the member of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for following up on major United Nations Summits and Conferences, as well as providing services to the UN’s Economic and Social Council and the UN’s Nations General Assembly's Second and Third Committees.
UN DESA helps nations worldwide in agenda-setting and decision-making in order to meet their economic, social and environmental challenges. It aids international collaboration to encourage sustainable development for all, having as a basis the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
UN DESA successfully translates international commitments in the economic, social, and environmental domains into national policies and actions by offering a range of analytical products, policy advice and technical support and it continues to play a key role in tracking progress toward internationally agreed-upon development goals.
