The project will support the design and implementation of intersectoral social policy interventions targeting low-income and at-risk youth in the poorest communities of Rio de Janeiro. The project will support on-going efforts by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro to reduce violence and promote social inclusion for youth in poor metropolitan areas of the city of Rio. The project is preliminarily structured under three components: 1. Expansion and Improvement of Social Services: comprising the construction of social facilities and the enhancement of service delivery in various social fields (social assistance, education, health, human rights, job promotion, poverty reduction etc.). 2. Qualifications of Social Workers: consisting of the design and offer of different strategies to build the capacities of government and non-government social workers. Courses and training opportunities will be specifically designed to address the multifaceted situation faced by social workers. 3. Institutional Strengthening: improving the institutional and governance capacity of the State government of Rio de Janeiro by helping to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate polices and programs for youth.
