Title: Service Designer

Reports to: Design Lead

Type: Full-time, fixed-term consulting assignment

Level: Mid

Based in: India. Work itself is mainly remote.

Travel: 30% domestic, depending on Covid-situation and recommended protocols 

Position Description:

In this role, you will serve as a Service Designer for Scope’s social impact work. The role involves planning and conducting design research, facilitating co-design, prototyping, and related design tasks in thematic areas such as nutrition, healthy hygiene practices, climate-smart health, as well as community engagement and behaviour change. You will be excited and motivated to explore, ideate, test, and help solve complex social challenges through new people-centric and system-integrated interventions.

Areas of responsibility will include:

Service Design and Innovation

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of design methodologies, process planning, ideation, testing, and implementation steps of each project.
  • Lead the design activities with support from the broader team and collaborate with the Project Leads/Managers in defining project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Support in framing the research outline and in creating and implementing design research tools. 
  • Compile, analyse, and use data and research insights and synthesis to design solutions and service concepts with a user focus.
  • Support in iterating, testing, and scaling of new service designs and products, including rapid prototyping, co-creation session facilitation, and creation of required tools and frameworks.
  • Troubleshoot and solve challenges within project constraints alone and together with the broader team.
  • Support the service and system strategies and implementation and evaluation plans together with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Produce quality project deliverables together with the wider project teams in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to Scope’s overall design method and process planning, ideation, concepting, and ways to measure and evaluate impact in the design process.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments/trends/thinking within the design field and share the knowledge with project teams and clients.

In addition, the Consultant shall do additional related tasks from time to time, as directed by Scope.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Educated to a minimum of Bachelor-level from a relevant programme
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience, including applying service design methodology in complex settings
  • Demonstrated service design knowledge, skills, and experience, with good technical understanding and capabilities
  • Experience and knowledge of the development and public health sectors is an advantage
  • Strong analytic skills and ability to grasp complex topics quickly
  • Team player with the ability and experience to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proactive and self-driven 
  • Cultural understanding and sensitivity to different cultural environments and belief systems
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills
