Description

The Climate Change & Food Systems team provides technical expertise and support for internal and external clients in advisory services, training, and research, assures the quality of project design and implementation, fosters innovation, and engages in knowledge sharing in its fields of expertise. We engage in discussions and a regular exchange in internal and external networks, and we are passionate about contributing to thought leadership and the positioning of the organisation in the field of Climate Change and Food Systems.

Climate change will be a key priority for the organisation in the coming years and thus the recently established Climate Change & Food Systems division will be of high importance to the organisation. The division includes the core topics of Sustainable Agriculture and Green Cities and is closely linked with the Skills Development (working on “green skills”) and the Enterprise Promotion (working on “green enterprise and sector transformation”) divisions. We work in close collaboration with our practitioners and experts in 40 countries, and we meet regularly for interesting thematic exchanges with our global core working groups.

To complement our dynamic and ambitious team, we are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, sociable and client-oriented person who can cover a broad range of topics and manage the diversity of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems projects as a versatile team member in the role of

Advisor Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (80-100%)

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice and strategic guidance to project teams and clients in the fields of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems with a focus on climate change adaptation (and mitigation), climate finance, sustainable landscapes and private sector engagement
  • Contribute to the identification of trends and related key challenges that need to be addressed, support the organisation in formulating our offer and in positioning by participating in external events and networks
  • Support business development, provide technical acquisition support
  • Assume thematic leadership for the Sustainable Agriculture working area: (virtual) core group facilitation, member liaison, provision of technical inputs and reviews, identification, and documentation of good practice, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of training and capacity building sessions/courses (e.g., on access to climate finance)
    and support their delivery to internal and external audiences

Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree in Agronomy, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainable Development, or related subjects
  • At least 4 years of project implementation experience in development cooperation, in technical advisory and support to projects in the area of sustainable agriculture, of which at least 2 years in developing countries
  • Experience in market systems development, climate finance, private sector engagement and sustainable landscapes is a plus
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally (approx. 25%)
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in developing conceptual guidance / frameworks
  • Excellent English and French or Spanish communication, digital and interpersonal skills
  • Result-oriented, impact driven, initiative, dynamic, and ambitious personality
