Description

Joining OPM's Urban Policy and Planning team and based in India, Kenya or Tanzania, you will play a key role in developing our work in India/Africa on sustainable urban growth and planning and be a key part of our global team, working on business development and projects internationally and in South Asia. The postholder will build relationships with clients, identify opportunities and lead tenders to win quality, impactful work, and collaborate with colleagues across the Resilience Practice, working across sectors to deliver impact and develop new business. The role will require technical, team and process leadership experience.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Be responsible for ensuring that programme inputs and deliverables are defined and delivered on time and to quality standards, providing everyday support to the Team Leader
  • Be an integral part of the UPP portfolio and engage across other relevant OPM teams to define, develop and deliver opportunity pipelines for key clients in line with portfolio objectives. This will range across identifying opportunities, pre-positioning, partnership development, bid writing and submission, ensuring a distinctive offer to provide substantial positive impact of our work for poor and marginalised people
  • Build upon existing strong external networks by identifying and building relationships with key external organisations, associates and external consultants that share our values and complement our skills in UPP, building up our database and linking to other relevant portfolios.

Essential requirements:

  • A Master’s or other post-graduate university qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Substantial relevant work experience in some of the following areas (7-8 years): urban planning, urban resilience, urban social protection, urban service delivery, governance/ working with city-level governments, urban sanitation and broader experience working with Smart Cities across the globe.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to manage time effectively in a busy environment.
  • Work experience in India/Africa and other emerging markets ideally within a consulting firm, NGO, think-tank, multilateral or government agency, or private sector firm, ideally on urban planning, sustainable urban development and resilience/climate change issues.
