Description

Juru is looking for a Biodiversity Specialist who will provide expert advice and support related to biodiversity and ecosystem services. You will work in Environmental team of the Sustainability Business Unit to ensure that biodiversity considerations are integrated into project planning and decision-making processes, and that potential impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services are effectively managed and mitigated.
 
Job responsibilities:
  • Conduct biodiversity surveys and assessments to identify potential impacts of the proposed project on wildlife, plants, and habitats;
  • Develop and implement biodiversity management plans, which include identifying measures to avoid, minimize, and mitigate potential impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services;
  • Provide expert guidance on relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to biodiversity conservation and management;
  • Engage with stakeholders, including local communities and government agencies, to ensure their concerns and interests are considered in project planning and decision-making processes;
  • Review and provide input on project proposals, environmental impact assessments, and other relevant documents to ensure that biodiversity considerations are adequately addressed;
  • Collaborate with other technical experts, such as ecologists, hydrologists, and environmental engineers to integrate biodiversity considerations into project design and implementation;
  • Analyse technical information, writing reports, and establishing work plans for the biodiversity assessment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in ecology, biology or environmental science;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in biodiversity conservation and management, with a focus on conducting biodiversity surveys and assessments, developing and implementing biodiversity management plans, and providing expert guidance on relevant laws, regulations, and policies;
  • Specialisation in botany is an asset;
  • Experience working on ESIA projects is an asset;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Russian;
  • Knowledge on habitat assessment and habitat mapping;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with stakeholders and work collaboratively with project teams;
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to review and provide input on project proposals, environmental impact assessments, and other relevant documents;
  • Familiarity with relevant software and tools, such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems);
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • A commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
