About the Role

This post brings extensive practitioner experience and technical expertise in Gender Based Violence in Emergencies to join our team at SDDirect. This post will deliver expertise, leadership, capacity development and hands-on programme delivery in one of SDDirect’s core thematic areas of work. The post holder will support the continued growth of our work in the field of Gender-Based Violence, ensuring that the work of in-house staff and network consultants on GBV in emergencies is evidence-based, high quality, and aligned with feminist principles.

Summary of role

Reports to: Programme Director - GBV AoR Helpdesk
Location: London-based office with international travel.
Our London Head Office works on a hybrid basis – we are open to flexible working.
Appointment term: Full-time, permanent contract
Remuneration Package: £55,000 - £85,000 (this role is Band E and an appointment will be made commensurate with experience)

This is a Principal Consultant role (please see person specifications below) within a cutting-edge and growing international social development organization. This role will lead SDDirect’s work in Emergencies, focusing on GBV and bringing broader expertise in gender and/or safeguarding in emergency settings. The role will contribute to the GBV portfolio’s broader goals in terms of business development, high-quality delivery and equitable partnerships.

The post holder will provide deep expertise and leadership in the field of GBV in emergencies, including protection, response, and prevention, ensuring that the work of in-house staff and consultants is evidence-based, draws on practice-based knowledge, and is of high quality. They will support the continued high-quality delivery and growth of SDDirect in this technical area as a trusted partner with UN donors and actors across the GBViE sector. They will demonstrate strong, feminist leadership internally including through managing staff and leading internal organizational development in particular areas. They will represent SDDirect with international stakeholders, provide thought leadership, and support opportunities to increase the diversity of SDDirect and its partnerships.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Delivery & Leadership

  • Toprovide strong technical skills and leadership to relevant client projects undertaken by SDDirect technical staff and network consultants. This will involve project management responsibilities, client liaison, and support to and technical leadership of consultancy teams.
  • To undertake high quality technical consultancy work to clients in the fields of GBViE and gender in emergencies.
  • To provide support to SDDirect’s other portfolios (MEL Unit, Equal Education, Safe guarding and GEI), as appropriate on GBViE and gender in emergencies and fragile settings.
  • To contribute to intellectual leadership within SDDirect in this technical area and be a source of up-to-date technical advice for the wider organization.
  • To provide technical co-leadership (with fellow Principal Consultant for GBViE), support and mentoring in GBV and gender in emergencies to in-house staff and consultants.
  • To share learning with other teams and technical leads across SDDirect and identify areas for cross-portfolio collaboration, for example around climate change, women, peace and security and support to women’s rights organisations.

Raising SDDirect’s Profile

  • To establish and maintain close relationships and effective networks with our clients, partners and consultants, drawing on the post-holder own professional networks.
  • To represent SDDirect at meetings, conferences and on social media and ensure that SDDirect’s work on GBViE is disseminated and profiled externally, in particular with key fora in the GBViE sector.

Business Development

To contribute to the growth of SDDirect’s portfolio of work in this technical area, through:

  • Identifying areas of growth and new business opportunities through close and direct contact with clients, potential clients, partners, potential partners, in-house staff and external consultants.

Supporting the Business Development Team with technical content for relevant bids and proposals to clients.
