Description

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of three years. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany or one of Welthungerhilfe's project countries after feasibility check. 

As Expert Emergencies - Finance, you will be part of both the Finance Team and the cross-departmental Emergency Crisis Group (ECG). The purpose of the ECG is to strengthen Welthungerhilfe's capacities in emergency situations and to ensure that Welthungerhilfe's emergency aid measures run smoothly. In addition, an essential part of the task is the successful implementation of recommendations derived from previous emergency aid measures. During an emergency response, you will work closely with the Emergency Crisis Group and the Emergency Operations and Crisis Support Coordinator.

If you are not assigned to an emergency crisis, you will ensure the quality of program finances in the role of "Roving Head of Finance" in the program countries as part of short-term assignments (up to 8 weeks). You will provide flexible "hands-on" support in management and leadership tasks and contribute to maintaining the functionality of the decentralized structures and ensuring high-quality financial management of the projects.

Your responsibilities

in emergency situations (50% of the position):

  • Proactively seek solutions to finance-related problems faced by the respective country during a crisis
  • Ensure proper documentation of ongoing emergency projects in the financial software
  • Train all ECG team members on role-specific financial responsibilities, procedures and systems
  • Participate in the recruitment of new FIN colleagues for the field team
  • Developing common standards and agreements when crisis response is done in collaboration with one or more Alliance2015 partners
  • Follow up on recommendations identified after major humanitarian crises and ensure their implementation and documentation
  • If necessary, deployment in crisis countries for up to 8 weeks and short-term departure

outside of emergency situations (50% of the position):

  • Perform all finance related tasks when deployed to a country
  • Coordinate financial administrative training and further development courses for staff on location
  • Support the Country Director and the Regional Finance Manager in analysing and advising on the country's structural set up, with a specific focus on the administrative set up (functional review)
  • Contribute to the development of standards/guidelines/checklists
  • Support project, finance and admin teams
  • Perform administrative tasks on request for different countries including projects in Germany

Your profile

  • A University or College degree or completed training in the field of finance or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years of experience in finance in the context of humanitarian disasters
  • Proven skills in financial administration, reporting and controlling of humanitarian projects in different cultural contexts
  • Strong ability to work independently in a decentralized team
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience with the ability to adapt to changing team structures and conditions
  • Willingness to be vaccinated for work in Welthungerhilfe's project countries
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of French or Arabic is an advantage
