CAGH is a member-based, not-for-profit organization representing, and supported by, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and students with academic and civil society partnerships across Canada and globally. CAGH is a global health convener, partner, and champion. We bring people together and partner with multiple actors in the global health ecosystem enhancing actions, collaborations, networks, resource mobilization, and the creation and use of knowledge. We are champions for global health equity. Unfortunately, at the end of 2023, due to lack of sufficient finances for ongoing operations, CAGH paused its operations. In the interim, the Board of Directors exploring ways to revitalize the organization and needs to ensure that bookkeeping continues to ensure transparency and accountability.

CAGH seeks a freelance bookkeeper to work on a contractual basis as per the job description below to start April 15, 2024

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Freelance Bookkeeper
Reporting To: Board Chair Work
Location: Remote
Compensation range for contract duration: Commensurate with experience
Level of effort: Initial setup 25-30 hours; ongoing 4-8 hours/quarter
Application deadline: Wednesday 28 February 2024, 11.59am EST

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Initial setup (April 15-30):

  • Setup Quickbooks online, using opening numbers from final audited financial statements
  • Setup HST codes


Ongoing bookkeeping (April 15 onwards):

  • Record monthly transactions (less than 20)
  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Quarterly HST filing & remittances
  • Quarterly financial statement preparation


REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of financial reporting for non profit organizations
  • 5+ years of preparing, reviewing, analyzing financial reports
  • Good knowledge of Excel, Quickbooks Online, Google docs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Familiarity with Canadian laws relevant to the job
  • Legally permitted to work in Canada
  • Able to receive paper documents to a location in Canada
  • Ability to work independently, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and achieving results
  • Excellent written, oral and comprehension skills in English. French an asset.
