Description

SGS Nederland B.V. is looking for an Institutional Development and System Change expert to add to the team for a project in Algeria's dates sector. The long-term goals of the project are to make the Algerian dates sector more resilient and adaptable to climate change impact and to stimulate entry to the EU market.

For this project, 1-4 onsite visits are expected. 

The total project duration is minimum 1 year and maximum 5 years.

Role:

  • Empowering the Algerian dates sector to drive its own transformation towards greater resilience and adaptability to climate change.
  • Have a facilitator role as much as possible, minimizing direct delivery, and encouraging sector stakeholders to take action and ownership.
  • Guiding the sector in collaboratively developing and implementing a strategy for climate change adaptation.
    • Foster an environment where stakeholders collectively identify challenges and solutions, ensuring the strategy is sector-led and widely supported.
  • Leading the organization of sector events and workshops that serve as catalysts for stakeholder collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Facilitating dialogue and collaboration among diverse sector stakeholders
    • Such as government bodies, industry associations, and NGOs.
    • Facilitate these interactions, encouraging a unified approach to building climate resilience.
  • Providing advice on how insights on understanding systemic challenges and opportunities within the sector can guide the sector towards sustainable Climate Adaption practices.
    • Advise the client on adapting the project’s approach to align with systems change best practices.
  • Monitoring the sector’s progress and facilitating the adjustment of strategies based on feedback and changing needs. 
  • Supporting the availability of the services needed by value chain actors for EU exports and climate resilience.
    • Conduct needs assessments to identify the services needed, and subsequently coach service providers on delivering these services in a financially sustainable manner.

Requirements:

  • At least three (3) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, in facilitating systemic change initiatives by building effective public-private stakeholder coalitions to drive sector transition processes.
  • At least two (2) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, in conducting needs assessments and research aimed at identifying opportunities and bottlenecks for systems change within a sector.
  • At least three (3) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, in coaching sector associations or private sector service providers in developing countries on the development of export-related services. Such services include export marketing, branding, sustainability, digital marketing, market intelligence, SME export coaching, and market entry activities.
  • At least three (3) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, in coaching and advising service providers in developing countries on developing financially viable business models for their services.
  • At least two (2) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, in providing institutional development support to sector actors in developing countries, such as sector associations and business support organisations.
  • Experience in coaching by using distant guidance techniques like email and online tools (for example Skype, GoToWebinar, Zoom, Teams) for both individual meetings and for group coaching. At least one (1) year of experience within the last five (5) years.

Language requirements:

  • French B2 level or higher.
  • English C1 level or higher.
