About

Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga is a natural park, established on 6th December 1991. It has an area of 2,014 square kilometres, and it is mainly spread out across the province of Teramo, L'Aquila, Pescara, with small areas in the province of Rieti and Ascoli Piceno. The terrain is predominantly mountainous with alpine plains. The park contains one of the most biologically diverse areas of Europe. 

The Park's activities in the educational, cultural, scientific and popular fields are numerous, diversified and constant, all sharing the objective of spreading the culture of environmental sustainability: from the expectations of safeguarding and preserving the exceptional natural heritage of the protected area to research scientific applied to the fauna, flora and forests, from the projects of infrastructural and territorial promotion to the opportunities of discovery and knowledge offered by the Park, in every period of the year, to the world of school, to tourists and to resident communities.
